American Airlines is currently running a great awards sale for AAdvantage members, with one-way flights available for as little as 5,000 AAdvantage miles.
The awards sale is live until Jan. 31, and the airline says in its marketing that you can redeem as few as 7,000 miles for one-way flights within the continental U.S. (excluding Alaska and Hawaii) and Canada. However, when TPG dug into the flights on offer, we found several flights for even less than that, starting at 5,000 miles.

A few other things to know before you book: All mileage rates are subject to availability (so don’t dawdle), you can’t apply the offer retroactively or to existing reservations, and you must book at least 14 days in advance.

The promotion is only valid on American Airlines- or American Eagle-operated flights.
Finally, basic economy nonrefundable fares are included within the promotion, but you won’t be assigned a seat until you check in.

To book, you’ll want to head to aa.com and enter your departing airport and destination in the usual boxes. Make sure to filter the results to show only routes available to book with miles (not cash) to see what’s on offer. Also, set your search for one-way flights.

As stated above, American Airlines says flights are bookable for as few as 7,000 miles. That is largely true, but if you dig a little deeper, you’ll also see some for much less.

- New York City-area airports to Miami International Airport (MIA), departing March 25 (5,000 miles plus $6 in fees)
- Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), departing Aug. 8 (5,000 miles plus $6 in fees)
- Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) to Nashville International Airport (BNA), departing April 2 (5,000 miles plus $12 in fees)
Flights for 5,500 miles
- DFW to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY), departing March 30 (5,000 miles plus $6 in fees)
- Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), departing Feb. 12 (5,500 miles plus $6 in fees)
Flights for 6,000 miles
- Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW), departing April 3 (6,000 miles plus $6 in fees)
- CLT to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), departing May 11 (6,000 miles plus $6 in fees)
